You would not think that there is much of a choice to be made when it comes to shower curtains.
Like most other areas in the bathroom, designs have improved significantly and there are now many different curtain applications available to choose from.
It is time to think outside the square and consider what material can be used to define your shower.

The first type of shower curtain that comes to mind is the plastic drop curtain. These curtains have been around for decades and while they do the job adequately, they have the potential to make your bathroom look cheap.
Fortunately there have been advances in the designs and materials used in these curtains, but you need to be careful that you do not inadvertently end up with a design that makes your bathroom look like a circus rather than a palace.
These curtains also have problems keeping in the right place. It only takes a little breeze in the bathroom for the curtain to blow either onto the occupant or further into the room, causing water to drip over the floor. These curtains are often an interim or last resort.
If you have a semi-modern bathroom, you may have a glass shower door. These have become popular where the shower has been placed above the bath. These doors are like half doors and start from the top of the bath to above the showerhead. These doors are exceptionally good at keeping the water within the bath unit and offer sturdy protection to the rest of the bathroom.
The difficulty with this type of curtain is that you need plenty of room for the door to swing into the room. This can take up a reasonable amount of space, and given that the bathroom is one of the smallest rooms in the house but most frequently used, space is always at a premium.
Another type of curtain concept is to build the curtain into the bathroom design. This could be in the way of creating a wall to physically separate the showering area from the rest of the bathroom. This is often achieved with clear bricks. It allows for some privacy in the shower while also incorporating the shower into the bathroom by allowing light to penetrate the brickwork.
Ultra modern bathrooms frequently include the shower area as a completely separate part of the bathroom, having the entire area tiled and made waterproof. With this design style there is actually no door but the wall acts as a curtain.
There is no one-way to screen off the shower from the rest of the bathroom any more. What counts as a shower curtain is only limited by what you consider to be the shower area. As long as the water is contained within a specified area, material curtains, glass doors or even walls can make effective curtains. Even if you are on a budget you can make your shower area look exquisite with the right kind of shower curtain.
