Room Style
Consider the style that the rest of your house exudes. There are simply some houses that a contemporary bathroom would look out of place. Ideally you want the bathroom to be an extension of the rest of your house, displaying a similar sense of style and elegance.
If you want to introduce modern components in these bathrooms consider achieving this effect through the addition of accessories. Be sure not to add too many otherwise the room will look cluttered.
Fixtures and Fittings
The basic idea behind the contemporary bathroom is to introduce modern, sometimes unique but always visually stunning components to the bathroom. What were traditionally basic components are now designer features.
There is a large array of mirrors, storage units, vanity units, baths and taps that can be incorporated into your design. These will all need to be coordinated to ensure a smooth looking final product.
Consider the lines
Contemporary bathroom design is based on crisp, clean lines throughout the room. This style of bathroom design is particularly effective in small bathrooms because the fixtures and accessories are often built into or along walls.
This concept also translates into uncomplicated fittings. Many people would consider these plain, but that does not necessarily mean that they are boring. While vanities may be simply shaped, they are often brightly colored or have metal or glass basins making them far from ordinary.
Changing Lights
To complement you new bathroom design you will probably need to change to style of lighting in the room as well. The most popular style of lighting in a modern bathroom is light tracks.
These lights offer the ability to have several smaller lights focused on different areas of the room. Down lights are also popular in these designs because they almost disappear into the roof. If you are considering using down lights you may need to check that they offer the required luminescence.
Color
Color is generally added in this style through accessories. The main bathroom color is usually neutral because you want the unique fixtures and sleek design to be the focus of the attention.
Metal and glass feature heavily in contemporary design but you do not need to be limited to these materials. The main point is to remember is that you don't really want any one particular aspect of the room to overpower another.
Not all houses will be able to effectively sustain a contemporary bathroom design. Make sure you design in accordance with other aspects of your house to ensure a smooth transition can be achieved into the bathroom. Even if you cannot have a contemporary bathroom, you can include modern elements into your design.
