Bathroom Mirror Cabinets – Mirrored Realities

Bathroom mirror cabinets not only provide the essential storage space but the mirrors also help to visually expand the space and the lights placed near the mirrors can also throw illumination to the rest of the room. Thus the position of your bathroom mirror cabinet is in addition an important element in bathroom design.

Mirror cabinets have been for long, always placed above the sink to let the user gain access to the mirror and also have any toiletries and medicines at hand that can be stored inside the cabinet.

In order to gain more storage space, some people may also opt for a recessed cabinet where the mirror is at par with the wall surface and the cabinet could be into a wall niche or protruding slightly.

There are some models which would significantly benefit modest bathrooms which have a larger mirror, this mirror is not just for ornamental value but has the cabinet recessed into the mirror itself with a special mirrored frame that holds the cabinet in place.

If space is not at a premium in your bathroom, you can forego the cabinet spacing that I hidden behind the mirror and bring that to the forefront by integrating open shelves with the mirror, often married in a beautiful design with each other. These shelves can be used to display your perfume collection or fancy dispenser bottles and the like.

Mirror cabinets are also available with a variety of shutter mechanisms and newer cabinets are seeing the trend towards sliding or sliding-folding shutter with magnetic clasps. Some the more modern designs allow the shelves to slide back and forth for the height and width to be adjusted and that makes an allocation for more dynamically optimal design functionality.

For specialized requirements, you can come across a medicine cabinet that will store your cosmetics and maintain the correct temperature as well. These compact and hi-tech medicine cabinets are especially useful for storing anything that needs a certain temperature as they come with an inbuilt refrigeration technology.

If you have to use a traditional cabinet you can easily transform it into a masterpiece by changing the mirror, a more decorative or even an antique mirror could camouflage the wooden cabinetry and create a striking focal point in your bathroom.

Also be attentive in placing the lighting next to mirrors. This is not only because of the visibility factor as you wouldn’t want a harsh glare from lights to cast shadows on your face but also because the correct placement of light near a mirror results in reflecting ample light that can light up your whole bathroom.

Most modern designer mirror cabinets will also have a provision for lighting; some are even endowed with special night light features to produce a soft glow in the bathroom when you don’t need complete illumination. Though overhead lighting is preferred if you do need to have side lighting use softer light sources to reduce the severity. You can also mount some frosted glass on aluminum frames for side light settings to create a rounded glow.
