Due to the nature of the room there is no escaping the fact that there will be some tiling in the bathroom.
Whether it's flooring, a splash back at the vanity basin or along the shower recess or bath, there will be tiles. There is no reason though that every bathroom needs to look the same.
There is an incredibly large range of bathroom accessories on the market, including tiles, to give your bathroom that one off look.

There are many different patterns that can be used in the design and laying of tiles for a bathroom. Square tiles can be used at various angles to create alternative patterns; different shaped tiles can be used to create an odd pattern (such as combining square and rectangle tiles), and there are tiles that are manufactured into different shapes such as octagons that create even more patterns. One or more of these patterns can be successfully incorporated into a bathroom design.
Traditional bathroom designs are based on the standard square tile. These are usually set straight or on point to make a diamond style pattern. Tile flooring is commonly straight set because there is usually not much attention paid to the floor. This has changed somewhat in the last decade with the successful introduction of feature floor tiles.
These tiles create a specific design, image or pattern on the floor adding style to an otherwise bland canvass. These patterns can be small enough to cover single tiles scattered throughout the floor to large designs incorporating many tiles to make a picture.
Modern bathroom design makes use of tile sheets conveniently manufactured to specific patterns. These sheets can be created in almost any shape and color. Most modern bathroom designs make use of large numbers of small tiles rather than fewer large tiles. In some respects it is almost like creating a mosaic in the bathroom. There are literally no limits to the patterns that can be created.
Wall tiling in the bathroom has become a way of making a fashion statement. Designs and patterns for wall tiles have become increasingly complex, aimed at giving an instant 'wow' effect to the room. The tile pattern can be composed not only of the layout of the tile on the wall but also the material that the tile is made from.
Feature border tiles have become popular as a way of breaking up plain tiling. This enables there to be classic white tiling with splashes of color and texture added through the feature tile.
Everyone goes for the white tiles when it comes to the bathroom but what would happen if you decided to go for something less ordinary. If you aren't brave enough to go all out and tile your bathroom in bold colors, perhaps you would consider adding a feature tile border. While it is probably not the most critical design you will need to make with regards to bathroom design, it is something that you will need to consider at some point.
