I felt that a contractor to remodel my kitchen floor should be well versed in the pros and cons of the different materials, products and working procedures so that he can give a more accurate approximation of the costs that will be involved in the flooring project.

When the word got around that I was looking for a contractor to remodel my kitchen floor there was no dearth of contractors at my doorstep. But I was firm that I would only settle for someone who is well known in my locality. Ideally I was looking around for someone who has worked for five or more years in my community. That way I can be absolutely sure about his standard of work and warranty.

In this matter, references helped me immensely too. There’s nothing more reassuring than a recommendation from a satisfied customer.

The contractor should also have proper insurance coverage. That is to say, he has to be insured against claims covering worker's compensation, property damage, and personal liability. I was further told to check with the housing authorities that my contractor complied with all the local licensing / bonding rules and regulations.

As I was searching for a contractor to remodel my kitchen floor, I came across many contractors who had excellent credentials and experience and yet didn’t seem right enough for the job. This was because they didn’t show much enthusiasm for my project. They didn’t have any new ideas nor were they able to rest my doubts regarding the project. Furthermore, they didn’t seem too keen to stick to my budget. I am now thankful that I didn’t hire any of them.

I must say that I have almost traveled to the ends of the earth searching for a contractor to remodel my kitchen floor. And amongst all the tips forwarded by those experienced with hiring contractors, the best was to steer clear off those contractors who demanded sky-high advances. Trustworthy contractors usually ask for a nominal upfront payment.

I have experience in working with plumbers, electricians and architects and with this experience I knew that for a contractor to remodel my kitchen floor, I would look for someone who can be easily accessed. I strongly believe that communication is integral to maintaining satisfactory customer-contractor relationships.

I was careful and exacting while looking for a contractor to remodel my kitchen floor and I have a well laid-out kitchen floor to show for it. It did not cost the earth either.
